DKS were appointed as Lead Consultant to undertake Architectural services for the expansion of the Packing Hall to the main production building at the Barnard Castle site.
The work was required to enable new extended packing lines to be installed to suit new products due to be manufactured on site and would be the first in a series of phased projects which involved extensions and adaptations to the existing production building. The scheme therefore required an early master plan to be developed closely with GSK to assess how the various schemes could link together in a logical arrangement over a period of years.
As well as the extension to the ‘factory black’ packing area, delivery of this first phase involved significant diversion of live underground services and relocation of the Engineering Team & Workshops from adjacent temporary accommodation which was then removed from site. The part single, part two storey extension was designed to link in with the adjacent entrance refurbishment we had recently completed and set the scene for a new elevational treatment along the north facade of the main building.
