The "Home Zone" forms one part of the master plan for a major mixed-use redevelopment of the north bank of the river at Stockton-on-Tees which runs between the Princess Diana Bridge and David Lloyd Leisure Centre. It is envisaged that around 200-250 "family" homes will be provided on this 3.4hectare part of the overall 23 hectare site.
The intention is to extend / connect Stockton Town Centre into this overall area and reconnect this development land with the river frontage.
The competition challenged us to reshape the future of family housing by asking us to take a fresh look at the family home and produce innovative ideas for flexible / adaptable housing types to accommodate the "family unit" in all it's various forms ie newly-weds, small / med / large families, single parent families, grandparents and so on. Think 1,2, 3 and 4 storey max
The "Home Zone" aims to assemble these newly-designed units into a community with a strong architectural identity, create a desirable place to live, connect to all of the criteria stated in the Brief and essentially, maximise it's relationship with the River.
A mix and variety of spaces for living, playing, meeting and gazing. We are creating town centre density with a sense of place, maintaining a clear hierarchy of public communal and private spaces. Our high quality flexible and sustainable house designs respond to the unique opportunities presented by the riverside setting.
